Teacher Collaboration:
Ms. Burton brought her Speech class to the library for three class periods. For the first visit, students learned about the research resources available from the library website. Students use a cloze-notes graphic organizer to collect the most important imformation from the presentation. For the second visit, students joined a Google Classroom to learn about MLA citation. On their last visit, students participated in a debate during which they used the evidence gathered in their research to support and defend their positions. Students did an exceptional job using their research to validate their points.
Dr. Essex brought his college class to the library for a session on how to use databases for college-level reserach. Students were introduced to LAUSD's Digital Library and the basic features of a database. Students were surprised to realize that they can do most of their research remotely.
Ms. Goodwin brought her students twice in March to check out books.
Technology:
With each class that comes to the library for a session on library resources, we have been spreading the word and singing the praises of LAUSD's Digital Library. This priceless resource allows students access to current, reliable, and plentiful information that can be accessed from campus or remotely.
The WASC team recommended that teachers make use of Google Classroom as part of instruction. Taking their recommendation to heart, the MLA lesson was designed and delivered using Google Classroom. Classroom allows teachers to post content, media, activities--it even assigns students their own persoalized copy of materials. Google Classroom is an amazing instructional tool that will hopefully be used more often from now on.
Community Outreach, Public Relations, and Displays:
MACHS Library celebrated Women's History Month with fiction and non-fiction books highlighting strong female characters. MACHS Library recently received a new shipment of books, and many of the ones featured on the display were part of this order.
March is also Crafts Month, and MACHS Library celebrated the joy of making something with a display of books for crafsty people. The favorite craft? Origami! MACHS Libray provided students with origami paper, and many delightful and delicate creations were born.

Library Practice:
Students finished Unit 3: Reference. They created another annotated "Works Cited" focusing solely on reference materials. Unit 4 will focus on ebooks and databases. This unit will give Library Practice students the opportunity to explore LAUSD's Digital Library and all of its amazing resources.
Professional Development:
March marked a new collaboration between MACHS Library and LAAMS Library. I met with Ms. Kantor, TL at LAAMS, and together we are working on a curriculum that covers information literacy skills from grades 6-12.
Collection Development:
We received part 1 of the big order placed in February. This order focused mainly on great non-fiction published since 2018. Books like Becoming by First Lady Michelle Obama and Fear by journalist Bob Woodward are now part of MACHS Libray collection.
Events:
SQA Calculus class (March 11, 14-15)
SQA SBAC Testing (March 20)
Teen Court (March 20)
Maintenance: The lights above the stacks are still not working. This issue was first reported back in October. Certain sections are quite dark, making it hard for students to browse the collection.
