Teacher Collaboration:
TRAILS testing was finalized with Ms. Gomez's period 1 taking the test.
Ms. Lu brought her Health students to the library to learn how to locate information to create an A-Z Booklet of Diseases. Students can access a webpage from the library website with information about the assignment, resources, and tips on how to organize and present the material. The lesson can be found here.
Technology:
Ms. Lu's students are using Google Docs to create their A-Z Booklet. Many of our students are not proficient at using Google Drive. They have difficulty with formatting a paper using Docs, cutting and pasting (since they do not know the shortcuts), adding images, and sharing their work. It would be great if we could have workshops during which students learn the ins and outs of the Drive without the added stress of doing an assignment.
Community Outreach, Public Relations, and Displays:
MACHS Library had the privilege to partner with the Consulate of the Netherlands and the Anne Frank House to host the exhibit Anne Frank: A History for Today. Three students (two juniors, Brenda Barragan and Esmeralda Yanez, and a senior, Calynn Watson) were selected to be docents of the exhibit. They were trained for two days by staff from the Anne Frank house and led the fifteen classes that came to the MACHS Library to learn more about Anne Frank, WW II, and the Holocaust. The main goal of the exhibit is to awaken youg people to become agents of tolerance and resistance in their lives and communities. Brenda, Esmeralda, and Calynn did an exceptional job!

Library Practice:
Students have started Unit 2: MACHS Library Catalog. The goal of Unit 2 is to teach students how to use the online catalog and all its features. The skills learned in Unit 2 will help students be more successful as they transition to college-level research.
Collection Development:
The first order from the $10,000 MACHS budget will be placed in December. The list includes suggestions from students as well as titles discussed during the last TL district meeting. There is still time to submit your suggestions! Please contact MACHS Library before December 12 with any books you would like to see added to the collection.

Maintenance: The carpet in the library is extremely dirty. The vacuum cleaner that Synergy Quantum donated to MACHS Library has stopped working. It would be very helpful if the libray could count on the Building and Ground workers to periodically vacumm the carpet and maybe shampoo it once a year.
Ongoing Projects: Schoolwide TRAILS Testing is done! The results will guide instruction in 2019.
