Teacher Collaboration:
Ms. Page brought her students for a three-day lesson on plagiarism and APA Style and Citation. Any MACHS student who wants to access the materials from this lesson can go to Schoology and join the group APA Style and Citation.
Mr. Bailey’s 10th graders finished taking the TRAILS assessments. Mr. Bailey and I have met, and we have decided to focus on three of the six research strands:
1. Develop Topic
2. Identify Sources
3. Evaluate Sources
Mr. Candelas brought his students to use the computers to access Google Classroom. His Journalism students are learning the vocabulary of the profession while his English classes finished a writing diagnostic.
Mr. Holderness brought his students to select a book as part of an ongoing assignment that requires students to maintain a reading log.
Ms. Goodwin brought her students twice to check out books. Her class stops by every two weeks.
Technology:
Google Classroom was used to create the APA lessons and activities. Classroom is a great tool for collaboration as it allows users to share documents and work together in real time. Teachers can go paperless as they post assignments on the platform, and students never misplace their assignments as they are stored in the Drive.
All students now have access to APA materials that have been posted to the Schoology group APA Style and Citation. Students will be able to interact with each other and the library to get answers on APA questions.
If you are looking for a way to incorporate technology into your practice, consider having students use Piktochart to present their findings. Piktochart is a great tool to create infographics, posters, and presentations quickly and professionally.
Community Outreach, Public Relations, and Displays:
It is no secret that Halloween is the library's favorite holiday, and we celebrated Halloween in style! The room was invaded by creepy creatures of all types. Our book displays were a hit; I had to replenish them many times over the month.
I am happy to announce that MACHS will be part of The Big Read! We will be joining hundreds of schools and thousands of students as we read Citizen: An American Lyric.
Each staff member will receive a laminated copy of an informational poster (which I designed with Piktochart) created to promote the library and its resources. I urge everyone to post it so that we can spread the word about the amazing space and resources we have.
MACHS Library decorated to welcome Halloween.
Library Practice:
LP students are starting Unit 2. Unit 2 covers the non-fiction collection. Students will learn search strategies to produce an annotated list of works. These "Works Cited" list are used in the library as resource lists.
Professional Development:
The next TL PD will happen on November 2nd. This time, we will meet at the Museum of Tolerance. This will be my second PD at the museum. I cannot describe the impact my visit had on me. The museum offers many opportunities to bring schools to learn more about the Holocaust and promote tolerance. We should take advantage of them.

AVID Meeting: Ms. Wiley and Ms. Shelton led an activity to show parents, guardians, and students the importance of working together.
Maintenance: The sliding tray that houses the keyboard collapsed for the second (and final) time. The defective tray was moved, but it still represents a danger. It would be great if we could have it fixed.
Ants have found their way to the library! To avoid infestation, we are working extra hard to keep food and drinks out of the library.
The carpet could use a good shampoo.
Ongoing Projects: • TRAILS Assessment: After working with Mr. Bailey's classes, I want to reach out and invite other teachers to have their students assessed.
• With more teachers using Schoology, we are getting closer to 100% of students with active and accessible email accounts
• Collection Development (library book orders): Thanks to Synergy Quantum, I am about to place our first book order.
• Book Fair is December 4-8!
