Teacher Collaboration:
Ms. Rivas brought her ELD2 class to the library for a library orientation session. Students learned about the library, rules, procedures, and resources. After orientation, they worked on a biography assignment and used their PaperCut account to print their work. They also browsed the collection and selected books as part of a reading assignment. Many of Ms. Rivas's students returned to check out a second book. It is very important that our students feel empowered to pursue their academic goals as well as supported by the school community to achieve these goals.
Ms. Chhabra brought her periods 2 and 5 to learn more about Google Docs and how to use it to add visual interest to their writing. Students used Google Docs to locate images and add these images as background to a paragraph about themselves. The final product look great!
Ms. Perez brings her students every Tuesday so that they select books to read for pleasure. Students look forward to visiting the library, choosing their own books, and interacting with peers and other adults.
Technology:
The new library website can now be accessed from the school website (under the "Academics" tab). If you have any links or resources you would like to add to the library website, please email Ms. Fonseca at [email protected].
Community Outreach, Public Relations, and Displays:
CCHS welcomed goblins, ghouls, and creepy crawlers to celebrate Halloween. From classics like Carrie to new scary delights like Anna Dressed in Blood, CCHS students embraced the spookiness of the season with a good horror book. Since the library is genrified, finding horror books (or any other major genre) is easy: Just find the color sticker for that genre! In case you are wondering, horror is red.

Library Practice:
Library Practice students have started Unit 2: The Online Catalog. They are learning how to use the online catalog and its features to improve the quality of their research.
Students have selected a topic of interest, located ten books on the topic, and narrowed down their selections to the best five choices. Next, they will create an annotated bibliography using MLA Citation.
Since this is the first time many of them create a bibliography, there is enough scaffolding to guarantee that they will be successful on their first try. These student-generated annotated bibliographies will be made available to all CCHS students as research resource lists.
Collection Development:
In an effort to support our EL students and our emerging and reluctant readers, we are adding titles to our hi-lo collection. Hi-lo books are high-interest, low-difficulty books that help readers develop their reading and language skills as well as their love of reading. The book order arrives later this month.
Thanks to a generous book donation from the College Center, the library now has a reference section for college materials. Students can stop by and learn more about colleges, majors, financial aid, and scholarships.
If you would like to bring your students to check out books, please contact the library.
