Teacher Collaboration:
Ms. Bentley brought two of her classes to the library to watch clips from the works they are reading in class and do some research using the Digital Library.
database features.
Ms. Ritner brought her students to check out books to read during SSR. Many of these students had never been to CHS Library. It is always great to witness students interacting with the collections for the first time and finding books that match their interests.
Recurring Visits:
Mr. Barr, Ms. Mazenod, Ms. Page, and Ms. Stewart bring their classes on a recurring schedule. It is important for students to have the opportunity to come to the library. These visits demystify the library and make books and the idea of reading a lot more accessible.
Technology:
Destiny, the library online catalog, has amazing features that can help students get research done much more efficiently. From compiling research lists to save sources to creating MLA citation and annotated bibliography lists, students can locate and gather information easily. Not only are they able to access materials in our library, they can also use Destiny's feature WebPath Express to find Internet resources that have been vetted for quality and accuracy.
If you would like to bring your classes for an introduction to research resources available from Destiny, all you have to do is email [email protected] to schedule a date.
Community Outreach, Public Relations, and Displays:
Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month ended on October 15, but the virtual reading room with selections from our collection as well as LAPL latest titles will be available from the library website. You can find all of those resources from the library website here.
It is the most wonderful time of the year... Halloween. CHS Library comes alive with ghouls, goblins, and all sorts of creatures of the night. Students and skeletons shared the room peacefully, and horror books were flying off the shelves. The virtual reading room that was published on the library website can be foundhere.

Library Practice:
Library Practice students finished their first unit, The CHS Library Catalog. Their culminating project was an annotated bibliography on a topic of their choice. Students used the many features from the online catalog to create an MLA citation list and provide annotations to three sources found in the Nonfiction section of the collection.
Next, we are moving on to Unit 2: Databases. Students will learn what they are, how they work, and why we should use them in academic research.
Collection Development:
CHS Library received a shipment of books, courtesy of Integrated Library and Textbook Support Services. Most titles are nonfiction and represent a welcome update to topics like LGBTQ+ rights, History, and Health Care.

Maintenance:
• The ants are gone! They have finally left the building. We will be working diligently to keep them out.
• The library continues to experience power issues, so most computers are not working.
Upcoming Projects:
• CHS Library collection is in dire need of updating. The last large order was place back in the beginning of 2020. Sources of funding are being identified, and the hope is that soon we will be able to add brand new fiction and nonfiction titles to the CHS Library shelves.
